The Walmart Healthcare Research Institute (WHRI) and Care Access are set to launch three further clinical trial centres in the US during the first half of 2027.
These planned facilities will open in Las Vegas, Nevada; Livonia, Michigan; and San Antonio, Texas, placing clinical studies and screenings inside community settings.

The expansion follows the opening of the partnership’s initial four facilities in Brandon, Florida; Dalton, Georgia; and Houston and Tyler, Texas.
The expanding network will host Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV clinical trials, with study options and patient eligibility varying by facility.
Subject to local availability, research areas include Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) therapies. Participation remains voluntary.
On-site care access teams will administer health assessments evaluating key risk factors, including advanced biomarker blood testing such as Lp(a) analysis where available.
Staff will also provide tailored educational materials and individual consultations to assist visitors in assessing trial participation.
Walmart chief medical officer Emily Aaronson said: “Expanding access to clinical research starts with making opportunities available in more communities.
“These additional locations build on the foundation we’ve established with Care Access and bring us closer to a future where more people, regardless of where they live, can learn about and participate in research that could improve health for themselves and for generations to come.”
Care Access oversees clinical operations across the centres, drawing on infrastructure from its international network of more than 200 research locations and its international Future of Medicine community health screening programme.
The WHRI supports trial awareness and accessibility through Walmart’s community presence.
Alongside site openings, the institute conducts nationwide outreach and recruitment to link individuals to clinical trials already active within their local communities.
