The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), the national authority responsible for approving new medicines, has signed a three-year contract with Accenture to develop, implement and maintain evaluation systems for medicines in Italy.

Under the three-year agreement, Accenture will provide management consulting and IT services to support AIFA administration and medical technology processes.

Accenture Health and Public Service Italy managing director Gianmario Pisanu said the company will use its industry skills and insights from the global network to support AIFA’s mission to protect public health, provide greater access to treatment and promote research and innovation.

"We will help our client build an integrated system that reflects the needs of an organisation as complex as AIFA," Pisanu said.

"In this task, we are helped by our significant experience in central and local health administrative processes, international best-practices and high performance in the public sector."

AIFA expects to strengthen relationships with its stakeholders including patients, civil society, institutions and pharmaceutical companies through the project by implementing new technical solutions.
