Monasterium Laboratory’s scientists have published a new article in the British Journal of Dermatology on the use of methylene blue for the intravital visualisation of the dynamic changes in human hair follicle (HF) cycling.

Macroscopically, the three well-known HF stages (anagen, catagen and telogen) cannot be distinguished from each other. Using methylene blue staining, the regressing epithelial strand in mid-to-late catagen HFs can be clearly observed (arrowed and enlarged image), and the telogen club hair shaft becomes highlighted.
