Biognosys, a leading provider of targeted proteomics solutions, is attending the HUPO Tenth Annual World Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, which is being held 3-7 September 2011.

Biognosys CSO Prof. Johan Malmström is holding a presentation, ‘Proteome-wide SRM analysis of complete microbial proteomes – a case study in Streptococcus pyogenes virulence mechanisms’. In his talk Prof. Malmström will discuss the SRM / MRM approach co-developed by Biognosys that has been successfully applied to target complete microbial proteomes. In this study, bacterial proteins were quantified in follow-up experiments demonstrating the capability of SRM / MRM to outline the spatial proteome. This approach enables identification of key regulatory mechanisms of bacterial virulence resulting in the rapid discovery of proteins relevant for therapeutic intervention.

Reto Ossola, head of biomarker research at Biognosys, is presenting the results of the internal study focusing on discovery and validation of biomarker for recurring breast cancer in human tissue. This study shows advantages of the integrated workflow for biomarker discovery using semi-quantitative shotgun proteomics for candidates’ pre-selection and targeted proteomics based on LC-MRM for candidates’ validation.

HUPO 2011 participants are welcome to visit the Biognosys booth (#1151) to find out more about advances in targeted proteomics and scheduled MRM as well as about Biognosys research tools and services. Please contact us if you wish to schedule an appointment with one of our specialists.
