Patient recruitment in clinical trials is often a daunting challenge for all life sciences companies, particularly when faced with the need for a large participant pool. When a leading biopharma reached out to Indegene for support with recruitment, Indegene had to design a strong strategy for identifying and engaging eligible patients.

The client: Indegene

Indegene is a digital-first, life sciences commercialisation company that helps biopharmaceutical, emerging biotech, and medical device companies develop products, get them to the market, and grow their impact through the life cycle in a more effective, efficient and modern way.

The challenge

A leading biopharma that was already engaged with a contract research organisation (CRO) was struggling to recruit participants for their Phase III contraceptive drug trial. To overcome this challenge, they collaborated with Indegene.

The approach

As part of the solution, along with their subject matter experts (SMEs) and their proprietary NEXT clinical trials design, which is an AI/ML based platform that provides patient-level information based on real-world data (RWD), Indegene leveraged the services of TrialHub.

TrialHub is an NLP and AI-powered data intelligence platform for clinical trial professionals. With their data-plus-digital-first approach, Indegene complemented the biopharma’s existing CRO model and enrolled participants for this trial in record time.

TrialHub provided support for this engagement in the following key areas:

  • Identify enrolment trends of ongoing trials for the same therapeutic area (TA) that contributed to the understanding of the landscape.
  • Improve the effectiveness of regional patient recruitment strategies by validating it with expert consultations with SMEs from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico who are part of the TrialHub network.

Identify potential patient populations in required geographies by using TrialHub’s Standard of Care module, which helps determine eligible patients and understand their treatment pathway in the selected countries.

The outcome

By deploying a hybrid model that is based on a data-plus-digital-first approach and includes geo-fenced omnichannel marketing campaigns along with Registered Nurse (RN) Concierge services, Indegene reported the following results:

  • More than 70 research sites activated
  • 3x faster recruitment speed
  • 50% primary and secondary screening qualification rate

This case study showcases how with their life sciences industry expertise and agile operating model, Indegene effectively leveraged TrialHub’s reliable data intelligence and expert network to develop informed patient recruitment strategies.
