Digital health company Pilloxa announced it has received €580,000 in funding from the EU’s EUROSTARS programme.
Pilloxa creates digital and remote solutions to optimise clinical trials and patient support programmes through supporting medical adherence and patient retention.
We combine software and hardware to generate real-time adherence data through engaging patient experience.
Pilloxa provides actionable insights into studies, which enable teams to take direct action, even remotely. We create a tailored experience for each investigation by combining ready-made building blocks with customised solutions to create a standalone app.
Our technological platform can communicate in real-time with major Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices with open APIs. Furthermore, our own electronic pillbox can be added to support patients who take oral medication in a pill form.
Additional options, such as a live dashboard, electronic informed consent (eIC) and tailorable electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO), can be integrated into solutions to streamline data collection, retrieval and analysis. Pilloxa unites with significant electronic data captures (EDCs) when needed.
Increased medical adherence and patient retention
During a trial, 88% of drugs never make it to market and researching a new drug costs $2.8 billion, which is increasing by 8.5% yearly, a significant challenge for pharma and all of healthcare. Clinical trials and patient support programmes are fundamental to this process. Study subjects are humans, not data points: they miss pills and drop out of studies.
We need to start thinking about patient behaviour and patient value. Adherence to medication affects the variability of results by up to 50%, the most substantial factor we can address directly.
Pilloxa’s solutions support patient compliance by providing real-time data capture and allowing timely sponsor intervention in clinical trials. The company strikes a balance between engagement and freedom for the patient while generating data for clinical study optimisation.
Digital solutions for clinical trials and patient support programmes
Visualise the contributions made to study results with detailed study data provided through our live dashboard. Provide digital study and site-specific education for patients and receive live statistics on patient engagement with this content. Enable patients to chat directly in the app with responsible staff during the study.
Pilloxa can implement eIC and ePRO to send forms directly to patients through the app (available in some countries) and allow outcome assessments to be conducted directly in the app with real-time reporting and trigger-based scheduling of questionnaires.
We combine ready-made building blocks with customised solutions to create a standalone app for each study that tracks real-time data and trigger-based intervention options. Patient centricity is key to the success of a clinical study. Pilloxa has the expertise and competence to identify patient needs and create personalised solutions.
Our user experience motivates patients to stay active throughout the study and track their progress. We achieve this by combining digital study education, direct chat, live dashboard, eIC and ePRO as needed. To further support patients, you can add our smart electronic pillbox, Pilloxa One, for patients taking oral medication in pill form.
Tailored consultation processes
Every process starts with an initial discussion and request for a synopsis or protocol of the study to be shared with us to review, allowing our experts to identify the study’s needs and match our services. Within a few weeks from the first meeting, Pilloxa presents a suggestion for implementation of the service suite, including timelines for implementation.
After receiving feedback, Pilloxa creates a mock study dashboard with simulated data for direct visualisation of the operational aspect of the services (if applicable), as well as providing further information about solutions and pricing. Upon an agreed proposal and offer acceptance, the company presents a complete roadmap and allocates a dedicated project manager.
Depending on individual study needs, the mobile application is fully tailored for the project (including localisation) and presented before the start of the study for internal testing. Pilloxa will perform short test runs with a representative group of the patient population and sites to test the patient experience and ensure it meets your needs. Eventual product iterations take place if required. Once ready, the service suite rolls out for all patients.
Pilloxa was founded to create a patient-centric digital platform that supports the challenges of adherence from a holistic perspective by combining hardware, software and Cloud services. We believe in improving the lives of patients.
The team aims to give clients’ patients the best experience possible to ensure each study is effective while bringing new treatments to market.
