Europe’s pharma industry IT hiring activity drops 7.7% in August 2021

Europe witnessed a 7.7% drop in IT hiring activity in the pharma industry in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

August 2021 has seen a decrease of 9.83% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.73% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2021, registering an increase of 0.32% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 48.43% in August 2021, a 35.43% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 16.14% in August 2021, marking a 44.59% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 10.43% in August 2021, a 33.75% drop from July 2021.

Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 10.04% in August 2021, a 37.84% rise over the previous month.

Top five pharma companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 35.82% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s pharma industry during August 2021 over previous month.

Bayer posted 46 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered an increase of 17.95% over the previous month, followed by GlaxoSmithKline with 34 jobs and a 2.86% drop. CompuGroup Medical SE & Co. with 33 IT jobs and Bausch Health Companies with 30 jobs, recorded a 52.86% drop and a 73.21% drop, respectively, while Sanofi recorded a 141.67% increase with 29 job postings during August 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s pharma industry

The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s pharma industry IT hiring activity with a 22.44% share in August 2021, a 30.49% decrease over July 2021. Germany featured next with a 21.85% share, down 26% over the previous month. Poland recorded an 8.86% share, a drop of 26.23% compared with July 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.98%, down by 35.52% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 23.03% share, registered a decline of 15.22% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.01% share, down 27.38% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.98%, recording a month-on-month decline of 54.55%.
