The UK pharma industry registered a 10.4% decline in IT hiring activity in June 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

The industry’s overall hiring an increased by 3.3% in June 2021 compared with May 2021.

Out of the pharma industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.75% share in June 2021, recording decrease of 0.7% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 41.05% in June 2021, a 40.91% drop over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 20% share, an increase of 18.75% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 17.89%, registering a 750% rise from May 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 12.63%, down 20% over the previous month.

Top five pharma companies in the UK IT recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 13.51% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK pharma industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

GlaxoSmithKline posted 9 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a rise of 50% over the previous month, followed by AstraZeneca with 7 jobs and a 66.67% drop. Parexel International with 6 IT jobs and Charles River Laboratories International with 5 jobs, recorded a 25% drop and a 150% increase, respectively, while Pharmacy2U recorded a flat growth with 5 job postings during June 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in June 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 55.79%, down by 33.75% from May 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.42% share, a decline of 10% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.53% share, up 150% over May 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 5.26%, recording a month-on-month an increase of 25%.
