Organised by Eureka Science with the support of the UAE’s Higher Colleges of Technology, the conference, first held in 2008, brings together the interdisciplinary fields of drug discovery, drug therapy and translational medicine – the latter being the process of turning appropriate biological discoveries into drugs and medical devices which can be used in the treatment of patients.

Background

"The conference brings together the world’s foremost scientists and clinicians in these fields, who will be presenting cutting-edge discoveries, research and never seen before therapeutic drugs."

The series that has culminated in the fourth International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy represents the first-ever international sequence of conferences to encompass the interdisciplinary fields of pre-clinical and clinical drug discovery with drug therapy.

The conference brings together the world’s foremost scientists and clinicians in these fields, who will be presenting cutting-edge discoveries, research and never seen before therapeutic drugs.

It is also the first international series of conferences to focus on the burgeoning field of translational medicine, as well as the major advances from ‘bench to bedside’ research and practice.

The three previous installments of the conference – in 2008, 2010 and 2011 – were attended by, amongst other experts, a number of Nobel laureates, lending weight to the high international stature of this event.

Building on the success of previous conferences, the International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy promises to be even larger and more productive.

More than 500 talks are scheduled for the conference, as well as 36 thematic sessions with poster presentations and a commercial exhibition associated with the main conference, while six Nobel laureates and a host of other world-renowned experts have already confirmed their participation.

New developments in drug discovery and therapies

A wide range of new developments in various fields will be showcased in Dubai, ranging from advances in patient treatment and care, to the importance, functions and structures of membrane proteins (a presentation by Nobel Laureate Hartmut Michel), to possible advances in handheld diagnostics of cancer biomarkers in breath.

"The four-day conference provides a unique opportunity for those involved in pharmaceuticals to network and learn."

Nobel laureate Harald zur Hausen will present a talk on preventative measures to counter cancer caused by infections, discussing the global acceptance of preventative vaccines which could potentially reduce cancer incidence in women by 12% to 15% and in men by 4% to 5%.

One potentially groundbreaking translational medicine presentation will be given by Janos Posfai, who will present a hypothesis on the link between developmental self-organisation (the formation of personality in an infant assisted by visual contact with its mother) and autism, arguing that functional disorders of the brain, particularly autism, result in part from inappropriate developmental inputs (such as television).

Invited speaker Tushar Kanti Chakraboty from India’s Central Drug Research Institute, meanwhile, will tackle challenges in drug discovery, including the therapeutic effects of synthesised ‘designer molecules’, presenting some of the centre’s most recent findings in creating unnatural structural molecules with nature-like qualities.

Network, learn and share – breaking new ground in drug discovery and usage

"Building on the success of previous conferences, the International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy promises to be even larger and more productive."

The four-day conference provides a unique opportunity for those involved in pharmaceuticals to network with and learn from global leaders in the pharmaceutical, clinical and academic communities with relation to groundbreaking work in drug discovery and clinical usage.

Exhibitors at the conference are afforded the direct, personal access to a core audience of professionals and decision-makers from the pharmaceutical industry, as well as high visibility through branding and networking opportunities at the conference.

Visitors to the conference, meanwhile, will inevitably garner valuable insights into the global layout of pharmaceutical research capabilities and potentially groundbreaking opportunities.

There is another added boon in the form of continued medical education (CME) accreditation, which visitors to the fourth International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy will receive for attending certain select clinical lectures.
