Technology provider Medable has joined forces with Pluto Health, a care coordination services company, to improve and optimise access to clinical trials.
Under the strategic partnership, Medable’s digital clinical trial platform and Pluto Health’s health coordination platform will accelerate clinical development, increase access to studies and improve data quality.
The partnership aims to improve patient experience by giving participants greater control over their health data and the ability to share it directly in clinical trials. The combined technologies will also facilitate easier recruitment and patient monitoring, resulting in streamlined enrolment and retention.
As previously reported by Clinical Trials Arena, the prevalent reason for trial termination is low accrual rates. Over a quarter of trials failed to complete due to slow recruitment, followed by lack of efficacy (7.3%) and adverse events (3.9%).
Medable’s CEO Dr Michelle Longmire said: “Together, our organisations will leverage advanced technologies to reduce inefficiencies from trial execution and deliver better site and patient experiences while expanding access to clinical research to more patients when they need it most.”
As for clinical trial sites, this collaboration should increase productivity given the data-driven and digitised screening process. Clinical Trials Arena has previously reported on the importance of ensuring that technology does not add burden on trial sites.
Improved recruitment and site productivity should lead to better cost efficiency and faster trial execution, which benefits trial sponsors.
Pluto Health’s CEO Dr Joy Bhosai noted that the company aims to improve patient care and design systems that deliver patient resources to manage health needs over time. This is especially important for patients who are participating in a clinical trial as part of their care options.
The collaboration should also make it easier for study teams to facilitate long-term follow-up with patients after the trial has ended. Patients will be able to choose if they want to receive medically relevant opportunities to participate in future clinical trials.
