Podcast: Bringing diversity to Alzheimer’s trials

Clinical Trials Arena speaks with Pentara's Sam Dickson about the dos and don'ts for Alzheimer's study design with diversity in mind.

Annabel Kartal Allen August 13 2026

In recent years, the Alzheimer’s disease market has seen several developments, including the debut of the first disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), a surge in the use of biomarkers, a sharpened focus on early diagnosis and harmonised efforts to improve existing treatment regimens to boost patient outcomes.

Though researchers have made some headway on improving how Alzheimer’s trials are designed and operated, diverse recruitment remains a major bottleneck for sponsors and operators, as logistical barriers and mistrust in healthcare present sometimes unpassable hurdles for sponsors to engage patients to participate in research.

With this in mind, sponsors are increasingly exploring new ways to encourage participation across a diverse range of races, ethnic groups, ages and genders.

In this episode of the GlobalData Healthcare Podcast, Clinical Trials Arena reporter, Annabel Kartal-Allen speaks with Sam Dickson, VP of Statistics at biostatistics consultancy Pentara, about how sponsors can best cater their clinical trial operations, inclusion criteria and statistical methods to support diversity and inclusivity in their Alzheimer’s trials.

With exclusive insights about the dos and don'ts of study design for Alzheimer's, this is not one to miss!
