Research and innovation in batteries in the clinical trial operations sector has stagnated in the last quarter.

The most recent figures show that the number of batteries related patent applications in the industry stood at 10 in the three months ending April – down from 19 over the same period in 2021.

Figures for patent grants related to batteries followed a similar pattern to filings – shrinking from 14 in the three months ending April 2021 to 11 in the same period in 2022.

Johnson & Johnson was the top batteries innovator in the clinical trial operations sector in the latest quarter. The company, which has its headquarters in the United States, filed eight batteries related patents in the three months ending April. That was down from 13 over the same period in 2021.

It was followed by the Japan based Otsuka Holdings Co Ltd with one batteries patent application, and France based Sanofi (1 application).
