5 August

Globally, the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached over 18,563,000 with over 701,000 deaths and 11,156,000 recoveries.

Globally cases continue to rise with the US, Brazil, and India remaining the top three most affected countries.

The US appeared to have turned a corner by slowing the number of new infections, however, the reopening of schools and students returning to college campuses has significantly raised the risk of increased spread.

Spain has seen a major spike in the number of new cases for the first time since the peak of infection in late March with more than 8,500 cases confirmed on 3 August.

It remains unclear if this new peak is a second wave or spikes in localized infections.
