The global pharma industry noticed a 2.3% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Evolent Health’s 9.34% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.14% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.17% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 0.07% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 18.22% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 32.39% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive pharma IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 43.29% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in August 2022, an 8.94% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 20.26% in August 2022, up 2.16% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 16.14% share in August 2022, a decline of 2.73% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 9.3% share in August 2022 and a rise of 43.91% over July 2022.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 14.53% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
Evolent Health posted 392 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a rise of 223.97% over the previous month, followed by Intermountain Healthcare with 244 jobs and a 42.45% decline. Parexel International with 165 IT jobs and The Hastings Center with 161 jobs, recorded a 157.81% growth and a 19.1% drop, respectively, while Johnson & Johnson recorded a 7.1% drop with 157 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 74.95% share, which marked an 8.75% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 12.18%, registering a 6.9% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with an 11.37% share and a 10.84% drop over July 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.88% and a month-on-month drop of 21.28%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.62%, registering a 23.53% decrease over the previous month.
